Dark Scrolls launches on Nintendo Switch with debut trailer

Doinksoft's retro dungeon-scroller Dark Scrolls is out now on Nintendo Switch, bringing nine quirky heroes and roguelite chaos to the eShop.

Dark Scrolls, the fantasy-themed roguelite action platformer from Doinksoft and Devolver Digital, is now available on Nintendo Switch. The studio dropped a launch trailer on June 22, 2026 – the day the game officially went live on the eShop worldwide.

What is Dark Scrolls?

Dark Scrolls is a fantasy action platformer with roguelite elements, fast-paced combat, and procedurally generated levels. The game fuses shmup-style chaos with roguelite progression and is packed with charm, challenge and secrets.

Players pick from a roster of nine playable characters – each with their own attack style and skill set. The cast includes an axe-throwing warrior, a spell-slinging magician, a knife-hurling thief, or weirder heroes like a cute dog, an alien, or a rat playing a saxophone. Every character comes with unique side objectives and customizable trinkets, giving each run a distinct flavour.

Players hack, slash and dodge through hordes of enemies and deadly traps in procedurally generated runs of hand-crafted rooms, with sharp reflexes and split-second decisions crucial for survival as the intensity ratchets up. In-run shops let players spend collected coins on new perks, attacks and summoned allies to build screen-filling combinations.

Dark Scrolls supports both local and online co-op, and collaborating players can strategize and revive each other mid-level.

A Delay Worth Noting

The road to launch was not entirely smooth. Devolver Digital announced that Dark Scrolls was delayed from its original May 28 date to June 22, 2026, because the publisher did not want to compete head-on with the May 29 launch of Mina the Hollower. Devolver acknowledged the situation with characteristic candour, and the game arrived on its revised date without further slippage.

About the Developer

Dark Scrolls was developed by Doinksoft and published by Devolver Digital. Doinksoft made its debut in 2020 with the 2D Metroidvania Gato Roboto, which was published by Devolver. The studio is also behind Gunbrella and the physical-exclusive Demon Throttle. Devolver acquired Doinksoft in 2023, bringing the pixel-art studio fully in-house ahead of what is now its most ambitious release to date.

Dark Scrolls supports TV Mode, Tabletop Mode, and Handheld Mode, and is rated Mild Fantasy Violence.
