Undoubtedly, KOF XV is an evolution over XIV. But I feel like this game is too stuck to its roots of the past and abandons mechanics that were introduced in previous versions. I don't know if I would go so far as to say it's the best game in the franchise – long-time fans would hardly agree with that, even. The King of Fighters XV is a great fighting game and SNK did a good job on bringing it up to par with the likes of the competition. However the game has a fantastic roster, great gameplay and is looking fantastic, there are still a few things missing. You can't really unlock things, there aren't as many modes as you would wish and the story just isn't that long. If those things were better, then the game which already kicks ass, would bring even the greatest of competitors on its knees.

The King of Fighters XV doesn't try to appeal to a wider audience, giving us interesting and complex mechanics which aren't really presented in an accessible manner. Long-time fans of the franchise will find some genuine enjoyment and improvements, especially regarding the graphical upgrade, which truly gives new life to these 3D models. But if they are at least as good as Tekken 7 Servers, then I'm happy. Being able to feel this excited about a fighting game almost feels unreal in a way. With my little experience with the genre, KING OF FIGHTERS XV makes me want to improve in every way that I can.
