I guess thereIt's a mix of 4x (somewhat Civ- and Endless Legend-like), Disciples-like battles, trade card games, in semi-board-game setting. I guess there are people out there who will like it, but I personally found the rules too abstract, the battles too random, and the story too opaque.Pros:- well, it's a 4x game, more or less, and even with tactical battle resolution (like in Endless Legend), yet with a 2-row units setup like in Disciples 2, yet the units can move within your 2 rows of the board. I guess the sheer number of times I used the "yet" word shows that the game is pretty unique- there are many unit types with quite a lot of effects and minor rules, so there is a lot of meat thereSo-so:- the graphics are low-poly and almost without textures. They look pretty strange overall. Graphically, the game does have a feeling of uniqueness (just like its mechanics), but about many things on the map and even the units it's often hard to tell what exactly they are, since the models lack detail so much.- the whole TCG thing: again, I know there are fans of "building decks" and learning the special effects each card has - but if you are just a 4x fan like myself and enjoy wargames, the TCG layer feels completely out of place.- the same with the dice rolls. The game even pauses for a bit and plays a sound of rolling dice before every attack and defense calculation. I guess they wanted to give it all a feel of playing of board game with that? I think the game would just feel more natural without those dice rolls aesthetic.- there is too much randomness. E.g. if a unit has an attack value of 6, it can make anywhere between 0 and 6 damage. If the target's defense is 2, the real defense can be between 0 and 2. Now imagine the target has 6 HP. It's well possible the target will die from 1 hit (you do 6 damage and defense is 0), or that you will exchange blows for a dozen of turns (doing some 0 to 2 damage points each time). So much for tactics. Feels more like a mindless dice game, especially with that sound of dice playing all the time. Again, I can imagine people who will actually like it.- rules are too abstract and aren't based on realism of any kind. Because of that they are hard to learn and keep in memory. Is this because the game is based on some board game? It doesn't even feel like sci-fi, more like strange fantasy in blue color palette, with space-y unit names.Bad:- tutorial ends too early, leaving much stuff unexplained.- there is no introduction to the story, and nothing is explained there too. It's like you'd buy a 6th book of Harry Potter and start reading it without reading the previous books. This game is a strange beast. Surely wouldn't recommend it if you were just looking for something like Civilization. More like if you're a fan of TCG games, or already know the board game this thing is based on.

Auroch Digital failed in its attempt to make a simplified version of Armageddon Empires. By removing the most difficult elements, the developers robbed the game of its charm, and new gameplay modes and improved UI can't fill the void.

Last Days of Old Earth is a 4X-meets-CCG with a personality of its own. While fairly light on content, it features good gameplay and a solid AI.

Last Days of Old Earth brings a classic strategy gameplay combined with an interesting card system. The fans of the genre surely will enjoy it, but it is too complicated for the players that have not tried this kind of games.

The Last Days of Old Earth is one of those lighter weight strategy games that can scratch a quick itch to unwind after a long day (beer and all), but is not the sort of game you will sit down with for an entire afternoon.
