Shard Squad lands on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on July 30

The creature-collecting bullet heaven hits Switch and Switch 2 on July 30, bringing 28 playable Shards, 59 bosses, and local co-op at launch.

Following its successful debut on PC, Shard Squad – the Brazilian bullet heaven published by Nuntius Games – is officially coming to Switch and Switch 2 on July 30, 2026. The game was created by The Root Studios. The console launch also extends to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on the same date.

What is Shard Squad?

Players assemble a team of elemental creatures called Shards, combining unique abilities and powerful synergies to survive relentless waves of enemies and challenging boss encounters. Every run offers new strategic possibilities through different combinations of characters, relics, and abilities, all in service of saving the kingdom of Mellunia from a mysterious force known as the Desalme.

Beyond its action-packed gameplay, Shard Squad features a colorful world filled with characters that each carry their own personalities and relationships. The game draws clear comparisons to classic monster-taming adventures, presented through isometric pixel art with a charming elemental creature roster.

On Steam, the game currently holds a Very Positive rating from 473 user reviews, with 83% being positive.

Launch Content

Shard Squad will arrive with around 20 hours of story content at launch, along with a substantial amount of replayable content. The day-one package is notably dense for an indie title:

Feature Count
Playable Shards 28
Unique synergy combos 20+
Relics with distinct effects 99
Enemy types 200+
Unique bosses 59
Playable stages 10

All 28 playable Shards – including DLC characters – have evolutionary forms that can be unlocked during matches. The game also includes a local co-op mode and fully voiced cutscenes in English, Portuguese, Japanese, and Chinese.

A Console Debut Worth Watching

Shard Squad already had a successful debut on PC before this console push, and developer The Root Studios and publisher Nuntius Games have been actively expanding the game, with the Prime Evolution update described as the game’s biggest yet.

For Switch players hunting a replayable action game with genuine tactical depth, Shard Squad arrives at a strong moment. The combination of a creature-collection hook, roguelite structure, and local co-op gives it broad appeal on a portable platform – and with 59 bosses and 200-plus enemy types baked in at launch, there is no shortage of content to dig into from day one.
